With over ten years of performing in the Cortland area, the Steve Morgan Band has earned itself a reputation as being one of the most exciting groups on the scene today. Lead by Steve Morgan on vocals and rhythm guitar, the band features Brandon Regard on bass guitar, Howard Lieberman on drums, and Chris Merkley on lead guitar, harmonica, and vocals.
The combined songwriting efforts of Merkley and Morgan produces a distinct mix of American roots music, including elements blues, funk, country, and rock. Their sound is defined by hard driving electric guitars, vocal harmonies, blues harmonica, and the rolling rhythms of improvisational jams. The band has also been known to incorporate the talents of Jaime Yaman and Steve Daniels on saxophone from time to time, adding yet another dynamic to an already diverse sound.
On any given night, the Steve Morgan Band can also be heard reinventing songs from throughout the past century of music. They cover a variety of styles, spanning numerous generations, with material from the Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, the Grateful Dead, and even early 1900's blues artists, such as Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters. They don't simply cover songs, they make them sound as if they were their own.
